Journalism as a career…

Have you ever wondered what you want to do for your career when you grow up? Has anyone ever given you an idea of the careers there are, what they do ,etc?… Well, a special guest, Madam Mrs. Meenakshi Nambiar, was invited to our school to talk about a career in Journalism. She gave us a clear explanation ofJournalism. Her way of talking was so interesting that I also wanted to take journalism as a career when I grew up. 

Based on what she said, I understood that journalism is the activity or profession of writing for newspapers, magazines or news websites or preparing news to be broadcast. Not only news, we can pick any topics that are interesting such as food, education, music, dance, arts etc… Journalism is one of the best careers if you are interested in working in the media. 

To continue, she also encouraged all of us to ask any questions and share any thoughts that were in mind and our own experiences. At first, many people didn’t interact much, but later everyone got curious about journalism, and started to ask many questions. I felt that investigative journalism was the most interesting, where you can get in depth of the topic and learn many fascinating things. Overall, it turned out to be a very interactive session and I definitely learnt a lot about journalism. 

I personally think that the school should call people from different careers or different fields to come and give an explanation about their job. With this program, students like us could get an idea of what we could choose as a career when we grow up. Also, I would like to recommend to include kids from younger grades in this program so they can start to get an idea of what they want to become at a young age.
